Searching for BIPOC owned wedding vendors that serve the Lowcountry area? Look no further!
Let me tell you about my dreamy, culture filled, marsh front Charleston wedding I shot this year
I immediately felt the honor and weight of my responsibility
in being there to serve her and her family. She invited me in! To her family
and her culture. She could have easily hired a Latinx photographer that spoke
her family’s language. I remember her telling me how comfortable she felt with
me when she decided to book me as her photographer and that her sister liked me
too, shout out to sis! I would never question it in the first place, but it
didn’t take long to understand why an all-Hispanic vendor line up made sense. I
watched her family relax and speak their native language with the coordinator
all day. It was fast and with ease. I watched her DJ lead her guests in several
cultural traditions and dances. He MC’d in both English and Spanish and blended
two families (the groom was non-hispanic) so beautifully throughout the
reception. Everyone felt uniquely honored and infused in a culture outside of
their own. Her caterers, Gorditas Locas food truck, seemly took orders in multiple
languages and dialects, and brought traditional cuisine to life! I went back
for seconds! It was family reunion/Sunday dinner meets elevated wedding vibes. By
the end of the night, we we’re all hugging each other, telling stories, dancing
together, and taking selfies.
Hispanic Wedding Vendors in Charleston Spotlight
Guess what!? I’m sure Lupita didn’t have to explain to her food vendor, Gorditas Locas, what traditional Birria tastes like. She could relax in her bridal suite and didn’t have to send a translator with her parents to talk to the Wedding Planner, Alejandra with Peper Events. She didn’t have to spend extensive time in the planning process giving their DJ, Sotos Entertainment, a playlist or sending him video and education on how to coordinate the vibora de la mar. She just got to relax and be herself and trust that her vendors understood her roots.
