Okay let’s do it let’s talk Charleston plantation weddings. I know what you’re thinking, this girl is not coming for our plantation weddings is she? I am though!
If we haven’t met my name is LaVonda and I’m a black Charleston Photographer. Look I get it people, celebrities included, have traveled thousands of miles to get married on a plantation in Charleston. Love that for you. I also understand we live in South Carolina, there’s probably not a square inch that’s exempt for having been touched by historical oppression. However, there’s still a large population of people who do NOT want plantation associated with their wedding. You don’t have to explain it to me, I get it! If you’re considering a Charleston wedding venue, you might be envisioning those popular plantations, and while I totally get the allure but I’m here to talk about something a little different. You still want those waterfront views, grand trails, moss trees, and stunning Charleston golden hour views. Let me introduce you to some beautiful, non-plantation wedding venues in Charleston that still offer that quintessential Lowcountry charm—without the historical weight.
Why Choose Non-Plantation Wedding Venues in Charleston?
Charleston is steeped in history, and much of its beauty is tied to venues that have been the backdrop for centuries of complex Southern history. For some couples, choosing a non-plantation venue is important for personal, cultural, or ethical reasons. I completely understand that! Luckily, Charleston is home to several incredible venues that offer the same stunning views, moss-covered oak trees, and golden-hour sunsets, without any association to plantation life.
