Charleston sunset session
When Lupita and Alex reached out to me about their engagement session, they had one clear request: they wanted grand trees and lush greenery, the kind of natural beauty that makes Charleston so unique. And let me tell you — Hampton Park was the perfect backdrop for their love story.
Camera shy engagement
We met on a sunny afternoon, and right away, Lupita and Alex confessed they were a bit camera shy. Now, I’ve heard that a million times before (I think it’s almost a prerequisite for booking a photographer, right?). But I’m a firm believer that everyone deserves to feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera, so I took a moment to reassure them. I always reassure my couples that you can't hear photos. So, I'll give silly prompts that might make you feel silly but when you start laughing at yourselves, I'm going to get the best, joy filled portraits; and that's exactly what happened.
Within the first five minutes Alex & Lupita found their rhythm! We were already laughing, chatting about all their upcoming wedding details, and walking through the park like we we've been friends since grade school even though we literally just met IRL like 10 minutes ago. It’s amazing what a little time and genuine connection can do!
Did I mention there was free parking - a Charleston rarity
Hampton Park is one of my favorite locations. It's a golden gem in the heart of downtown Charleston and it offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and of course charm. The park is lined with palmetto trees, walking trails, charming gazebos and a picturesque bridge over a pond. My favorite part is that as you walk the park it looks like you're going to different locations. I've been shooting there for about 3 years and still find new corners to explore! And did I mention the free parking? Which is a rare find in Charleston. Alex & Lupita found the park easily without the hassle of searching for a parking spot.
Hey there! I'm LaVonda, your future golden hour photographer! I’m passionate about creating authentic, memorable portraits that capture the unique energy of couples who are deeply in love, confidently adventurous, genuinely kind, and a little bit quirky — in no particular order.
As we wrapped up Lupita and Alex's engagement session, they had a creative request that I was absolutely on board with — artistic motion blur portraits. This is one of my favorite ways to capture the energy and movement between a couple, and Lupita and Alex were the perfect pair for it.
The results were stunning, and it really made their gallery come alive! Camera shy? I don't think so! We nailed it on all fronts: locations (just as they envisioned), artistry (on point), vibes (at 1000%), comfort and connection (on par)! Charleston at golden hour + Hampton Park with Alex & Lupita + pure perfection!
