Black Wedding Photographer Traveling Portland’s Scenic Landscapes: Adventure Awaits in the Pacific Northwest

If you're reading this blog then you’ve answered my call for laid-back, adventurous couples looking to ditch the traditional wedding and say "I do" surrounded by some of the most jaw-dropping natural beauty the Pacific Northwest has to offer! I can’t wait to see your inquiry in my inbox, in fact feel free to shoot me a quick email and then come back to the blog afterwards. The Pacific Northwest gold mine for couples who want to make their elopement day not just memorable, but an absolute adventure. Think lush forests, epic waterfalls, rugged coastlines, and the most memorable scenic views.

Whether you’re seeking a pre-wedding engagement session with breathtaking views or a ceremony that feels like it’s straight out of a dream, I’ve got you covered.

First up, where to stay. If you’re like me your first two travel moves are where to stay and then what to eat nearby, you do not want to see hangry LaVonda (don’t worry I’ll pack snacks for your elopement day). Traveling solo, safety was my first priority, if you know me you know that was immediately followed by aesthetics! This is where the “charming modern guesthouse retreat” comes in. This AirBnb was so beautiful and tucked away on a quiet street in a lovely neighborhood. The owners are incredibly responsive and strive to be a space that “welcomes all races, all religions, all countries of origin, all sexual orientations, and all genders.” I felt safe and their property thought of literally everything. From extra toiletries to a brunch table out in the shared courtyard surrounded by stunning florals. I’m a creature of habit when it comes to lodging so I know for sure I would stay here again and again when traveling to the PNW.

Heyyy I'm Lavonda! A black travel photographer obsessed with capturing real, unique, and culture filled memories for client's from all backgrounds from coast to coast.

Let’s dive into two spots that will leave you in awe: Multnomah Falls for your engagement session and Cannon Beach for your wedding ceremony!

Pre-Wedding Engagement Session Hike at Multnomah Falls

Imagine having engagement photos that fully stand out and highlight your complete love of nature. You can absolutely have this experience with an engagement session hike at Multnomah Falls. This iconic waterfall, just outside of Portland, is the tallest in the state, and it’s honestly a magical place for engagement portraits. Imagine packing a picnic bag, showing up with your fav photographer, and hiking hand-in-hand with your partner surrounded by lush greenery, and the most authentic waterfall ASMR to capture some dreamy, unique prewedding portraits. It’s the perfect vibe for adventurous couples who love nature but don’t mind getting a little bit wild in the process. The best part? The hike to the top (which is about 1.2 miles) offers stunning views of the falls from multiple vantage points. You’ll have the opportunity to get some gorgeous engagement photos that capture both your love of one another and your love of nature, surrounded by the epic beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Whether you want shots with the dramatic waterfall in the background or close-ups on a peaceful, mossy trail, this spot delivers.

Plus, the hike is totally doable, so if you’re not hardcore hikers, don’t sweat it. It’s the perfect way to celebrate your pre-wedding vibes while surrounded by the pure magic of nature. (Pro tip: If you’re looking for something quieter, consider going early in the morning to beat the crowds).

The Pacific Northwest is more than just beautiful scenery; it's a place where adventure meets serenity. Your elopement experience can be filled with both peace and adventure at the same time. It’s the ideal spot for couples who want something different—something that feels real, raw, and totally you. And when it comes to your wedding photos, there’s no end to the stunning scenic views and experiences than what you'll find in the PNW.

Remember, your elopement is all about doing things your way, so don’t be afraid to get creative, get dirty, and most importantly, have fun. You’re not just saying “I do”—you’re creating the adventure of a lifetime!

Elopement Ceremony at Cannon Beach: Pacific Northwest Destination Wedding

When it’s time to actually say "I do," why not do it on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world? Cannon Beach, Oregon, is the ultimate destination for couples who want to tie the knot with stunning ocean views and natural rock sculptures (hello, Haystack Rock!). The beach itself is gor-ge-ous year-round, and it’s the perfect place for a laid-back, adventure elopement ceremony.

Why Choose the Pacific Northwest for Your Elopement?

Whether you want to get married right on the beach with the waves crashing behind you, or you’re more into a cliffside ceremony with a view, Cannon Beach has so many options. It’s a popular spot, so if you want to have a more intimate moment, you can always explore the quieter corners of the coastline or plan your ceremony during the off-season.

After your ceremony, why not take a casual stroll along the beach or even dip your toes in the water (no dress shoes required)? Cannon Beach is one of those places where the day just feels carefree, magical, and completely unforgettable. And if you're into the idea of incorporating elements of Black culture into your ceremony, there’s plenty of space for you to include personal touches, whether it's through your attire (I’ll send out vendor recommendations - with black owned apparel companies - after you book), music, or traditions.
